I’m disappointed in that writer. Sometimes I think people who write for entertainment magazines forget that they have a heart in there somewhere that they should actually use.

I’m sorry she represented Dan like that, but remember that all of us at hitRECord and all of those who matter in your life KNOW what a good man he was and how much you love him, and that nothing any writer for some magazine says will EVER change that in our eyes.

BURNING dAN in GQ

First of all, I’d like to thank both of the Jims and everyone else at GQ for putting me on the cover of their magazine this month.  That kind of exposure is a huge help to all the work I love to do, and I’m deeply appreciative.

I’m writing this because I have a problem with what their article says about my brother.  I’ll be honest, it really made me feel terrible.  Here’s a quote:

‘…the elder Gordon-Levitt died of an alleged drug overdose in 2010.  “It was an accident” is all Joe will say about that.’

Using the word “alleged” technically allows the writer to say whatever she wants.  The “allegations” to which she must be referring were made by a handful of gossip websites.  They are factually incorrect according to the coroner’s office and the police department.  I don’t like publicly speaking about my brother’s death, but I’m making an exception to correct this irresponsible claim.

By the way, while I asked the writer not to dwell on how he died, I did say quite a bit about how he lived, and how much he means to me.  Dan was a brightly positive, genuinely caring, and brilliantly inspiring person, and I liked the idea of such a wide readership learning about him.  My parents and I are disappointed with what the article chose to focus on regarding this sensitive subject.

I really like JackMorrison’s “The Links” and I think that layering harmonies over the beat is a great direction to go in. This is gonna sound dope when we print it to vinyl!

12 hopes for 2012

2011 basically sucked for me (except for joining @hitRECord, that was pure fantasticalness), so I decided to write 12 hopes and wishes that I have for 2012 in an attempt to be more optimistic with the coming of the new year.

1. I hope my hitRECord anniversary on Jan. 13 rocks my socks off.
2. I hope I can find a new house to buy before the end of February so I’m not homeless.
3. I hope my classes continue to go well so I can graduate with my MA degree by Dec. 2012.
4. I hope my mom’s husband is able to give her the “special gift” he’s been saving up for this year.
5. I hope my dad gets more gigs! :D
6. I hope my family, especially my sister, is happy and has good things happen to them this year (baby #2 perhaps?) ;)
7. I hope I am able to move on from 2011’s shit.
8. I hope I expand my creative horizons and try more new things on hitRECord.
9. I hope all of my hitRECord friends have a happy and productive year.
10. I hope Chels gets better and kicks cancer’s ass. Go team :)
11. I hope to make more friends, especially RECording ones.
12. I hope my secret wish comes true. <3
